Rich living
As a financial counsellor I enjoy exploring the concept of “wealth” and “the rich life”.
For me, it is about living whole. Showing up as you, in all your magnificence, but also being real enough to allow the not so magnificent bits to show through also, acknowledging that it is the yin and the yang which makes the whole and that some moments in life are pure joy but others will be painful and a bit of a trainwreck……and that’s actually the point.
In the words of Brene Brown, author of Daring Greatly, “only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”
Only when we are brave enough to live whole will we live a rich life.
But it can be super can tricky to live whole in a capitalist, western, technology driven society. Social media can suck the creativity from you, literally. There are weeks where I consume so much insta, pin so many images, click so much clickbait, that my brain becomes literally constipated, even the simplest of concepts become difficult to communicate, my sentences get stuck mid-way through.
The temptation is to judge yourself harshly by comparing to the best in others, social media feeds this enormously. You can spend so much time and energy absorbed in the presented form of others that you completely lose sight of the journey that’s brought them to that point. And in the end, its ALL about the journey because the destination is death (channeling a bit of brutal honesty from Phoebe from Friends there, but its true!).
Self-judgment in modern society can be fairly toxic and it can make it tricky to live whole. It takes a lot of courage to stand up for what you believe, to put yourself out there or even just to give things a crack.
It takes acute self-awareness and self-honesty to bring yourself back to your lane.
There are lots of ways to bring richness to your day and it starts with taking back your sovereignty, particularly over technology. You have ultimate freedom over what you take in and what you put out, the key is conscious choice.
