Virtues and entelechy
What is the role of virtue in a rich and purposeful life?
After reading all my posts consecutively my husband noted how many times I used the word “fortunate”. It made me stop and think, what am I trying to express? Why do I feel such a strong desire to express my good fortune? The answer I have come up with is that I am expressing the virtue of gratitude, seeking to acknowledge and celebrate the good in my life.
Virtue (Latin: virtus, Ancient Greek: ἀρετή “arete“) is moral excellence. A virtue is a positive trait or quality deemed to be morally good and thus is valued as a foundation of principle and good moral being. Personal virtues are characteristics valued as promoting collective and individual greatness. The opposite of virtue is vice.
Virtues form the basis of our character, the foundation of who we are, some suggest that virtues are the expression of soul.
So what is the role of virtue in the expression of ones Entelechy? Surely there is a direct link, and that in seeking to awaken and deepen our connection with virtuous qualities gives direction to our lives, nurtures our relationships and brings passion to our purpose.
